Clash of Empires: First Shot British Rogers Rangers 1758-63
Manufacture Product Number : WBN-16197 Of the several companies of Rangers raised during the French & Indian War, Rogers’ Rangers have attracted the most publicity over the years. Originally known as the Ranger Company of Blanchard’s New Hampshire Regiment, it was expanded to seven companies and became known as His Majesty’s Independent Company of Rangers. Paid by the Crown, these were not regular or provincial troops, consequently there was little uniformity in dress or equipment. However, it is known that a quantity of green jackets was made up and worn by the Rangers from 1758 onwards. Vests or sleeved jackets were worn under these coats, with the lower part of the clothing consisting of buckskin breeches worn with woolen stockings, shoes, or moccasins. In the field, native style leggings or gaiters were worn over the stockings to further protect the lower legs. Head wear included cut down felt hats and Scottish style bonnets. |
