Jesse, Jackie, & Joe is an unpainted microMANIA™ tribute bust set (1:6 scale and about 5 inches tall) commemorating the achievements of three remarkable men who made history as American cultural icons and sports heroes. American track star Jesse Owens won 4 Gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, with Adolf Hitler watching, dispelling Nazi propaganda about Aryan superiority. Also in 1936, American boxer Joe Louis became the first black man in more than 30 years permitted to fight for the heavyweight championship of the world. "The Brown Bomber's" victory against Germany's Max Schmelling served another blow to Hitler's claims of Aryan superiority. And, in 1947, American baseball player, Jackie Robinson, broke Major League Baseball's color barrier, marking the end of racial segregation in professional baseball which for nearly 70 years had relegated Black players to the Negro leagues. These three men moved the United States and the world forward against oppression and toward equality. |
